Following a very successful running of the Laytown Races, Chairman of the Race Committee, Joe Collins and Manager Jessica Cahalan, visited Scoil an Spioraid Naoimh, National School to present prizes to the winners of the colouring competition.
Local children were given the opportunity to enter the horse racing themed colouring competition at the end of the last school term and the entries were displayed for racegoers to enjoy on Tuesday, 12th September 2023.
There were first, second and third prize winners in each of three age categories along with ten highly commended prize winners. The prizes which were presented to the pupils by Joe Collins and Jessica Cahalan, ranged from €10 to €50 gift vouchers for Smyths Toys.
Joe Collins had a chat with the children after the presentations and thanked them all for taking part.
“We were delighted to see so many of the local school children attending the races this year as it really is an important event in the local area, and we need to spark interest in the younger generation so that this unique event is around for a few more centuries! The colouring competition is a great way to engage with and attract younger racing fans and we are already looking forward to next year’s colouring competition,” he said.
Joe also thanked Scoil an Spioraid Naoimh for the use of their carpark and especially Ms Maire D’Arcy who coordinated the colouring competition alongside manager Jessica Cahalan.
